Palo Santo means 'Holy Wood' in Spanish and is known for its energetic cleansing and healing properties. The tree itself is native to South America and has been used for centuries by shamans for its metaphysical properties of purification and clearing negative energy.
When burnt, Palo Santo has a beautifully sweet woodsy aroma with notes of pine, mint and lemon. It's believed to cleanse your energy field, and enhance your ability to deflect and repel negative energies as well as raise your positive vibration in preparation for meditation. Palo Santo has a grounding and focusing effect which can enhance creativity, productivity and increase good fortune.
How to Use Palo Santo
Simply ignite the end of the stick (it takes a moment to catch) and hold at a 45 degree angle pointing the tip downwards. Place the Palo Santo stick within a fire-poof vessel and leave to smoulder and burn out on its own (this takes around 1 minute). You can light Palo Santo in preparation of your daily meditation or yoga practice to help prepare your energy and mind for meditation and allow you to better connect with your yoga practice.
Smudging With Palo Santo
Smudging is the ritual of clearing the energy of a physical space / object / or person. To begin, you start with a clear and simple intention. Once you have your intention clearly in mind, light the end of the Palo Santo stick and walk around the room / object / or person. Once you have finished, you must push positive energy into the space by declaring your intention again either aloud or silently.
You can shop for Palo Santo via our Daily Rituals collection. Our Palo Santo is sustainably harvested from branches that have already fallen from the tree - there is no deforestation or tree culling in the collection of our Palo Santo.
