Sustainable production

One of the biggest issues with yoga mat production is the usage of PVC (polyvinyl chloride) and phthalates (an acidic plasticiser that is used to increase flexibility).  PVC leaves a heavy footprint on the planet.  The manufacturing of PVC releases harmful dioxins (chemical pollutants) directly into our air and water.  Once PVC is discarded, these dangerous chemicals can easily migrate into the groundwater poisoning nearby wetlands and streams.  Phthalates are used in the production of PVC and are normally added to yoga mats to make them spongy and more flexible. Phthalates are a group of highly toxic acid plasticisers and are well known human carcinogens. Phthalates can also wreak havoc on the endocrine system interfering with hormone regulation and it is believed that exposure to these chemicals is the leading cause of reproductive disorders in humans.

We love our corner of the planet and we're super keen to nurture it. Our mission is to create a yoga brand that brings awareness to human and environmental issues, in particular the use of PVC and plastic and their disastrous affect on the planet.

Yin yoga mats are completely free from PVC, plastic, phthalates, and toxic chemicals. Our yoga mats are manufactured from natural tree rubber that is sustainably captured in Sri Lanka via a process called rubber tapping. This process does not harm the trees and does not require any culling of forest or vegetation.  Natural tree rubber is recyclable, and also biodegradable, meaning it can be disposed of in either landfill or incineration without environmental damage.

Our yoga mats are also shipped without any soft plastic. We ship via recycled (and recyclable) cardboard boxes without any single use plastic.
